The Polly Earl Award

I’ve always been drawn to old homes and the stories behind them. When I lived in New York, I renovated several homes and the building of the newspaper I owned. Bringing these places back to life was always a joy.

Since I’ve been in Florida, the projects that I’ve worked on have been as much historic restoration as renovation. Researching the history of the home and the architectural styles of that time, finding period tiles and fixtures, matching vintage wallpaper, and working with artisans who are passionate about craftsmanship has been energizing, challenging and deeply fulfilling. At the end of the day, these homes are as beautiful as when they were built with the modern conveniences families need.

318 Australian Avenue in Palm Beach was my most ambitious project. The bungalow and guest cottage needed a lot of work, but the end result was worth it. As you can see in the video, every room has the most beautiful light. The light tones of the floors and walls make it feel large and airy, and the cypress ceilings and built-in shelves are stunning.

This project was all consuming for quite some time. I was thrilled to learn last week that it will be awarded the 2025 Town of Palm Beach Polly Earl Award by the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. The award “recognizes property owners for the restoration or rehabilitation of a landmarked property integral to the charming neighborhoods of Palm Beach.”

I am so honored and proud to receive this award! I love this community and look forward to restoring more properties that make Palm Beach such a special and beautiful place.

There are dozens of photos online but I am particularly proud of the lovely cypress ceilings and built-in, which were restored to their original glory.
